Michael O’Donnell

Michael O’Donnell

Managing Director, General Partner


Michael O’Donnell is a Founder, Managing Director and a General Partner for Hawthorne Capital Partners where he is responsible for Executive Committee leadership, firm operations, deal sourcing, investment analysis and management. He has more than 35 years of executive management roles throughout global industrial, transportation, and technology businesses.

Michael has extensive experience across multiple companies and industries in guiding organizations through various stages of growth and business transformation. In the course of these activities, he has raised more than $5 billion in support of growth programs, acquisitions, initial public offerings, and business restructurings.

He has previously served as a Director and a member of the Advisory Board for Lookout Capital in Raleigh NC. He has also been a strategic adviser to WasteZero Inc. in Raleigh NC and was previously that company’s Chief Financial Officer. He was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Electromotive Inc. in Chicago IL where he led the sale of that $2 billion private-equity-sponsored company. As Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Board of Directors at Xerium Technologies Inc. (XRM:NYSE) in Boston MA, Michael participated in the consolidation of acquired companies with a private equity sponsor and led the initial public offering of that company.

Michael is a member of the Board of Directors and Audit Committee Chairman for Easter Seals / United Cerebral Palsy in North Carolina and Virginia which provides direct services to over 20,000 children and adults with special needs and disabilities.

Michael earned his BSBA from Franklin University and an MBA from Ashland University.

Tim Lavelle

Tim Lavelle is a Founder, Director and Partner for Hawthorne Capital Partners and serves on the firm’s Executive Committee. In this role, Tim is responsible for deal sourcing, due diligence, investment analysis and management.

Tim has more than 30 years of investment banking and private equity experience. Over the course of his career he was involved in hundreds of transactions totaling more than $3 billion in value.
Previously, he was a member of the Board of Advisors at Lookout Capital where he was intimately involved in the firm’s operations.

For most of his career, Tim was a Managing Director with Trident Financial Corporation where he helped build the firm into one of the most successful investments banks in the country specializing in the financial services sector. He began his career in commercial banking with Manufacturers Hanover Trust and J Henry Schroder in New York.

Tim is currently Chairman of the Entrepreneurship Advisory Board at the Williams School of Business at Washington and Lee University where he earned a BS in Business Administration.

Allen Summerford

Allen Summerford is a Founder, Director and Partner for Hawthorne Capital Partners and serves on the firm’s Executive Committee. In this role, he is responsible for deal sourcing, due diligence, investment analysis and management.

Allen has over 35 years of executive leadership experience across many industries including finance, real estate, manufacturing, and private equity. He has extensive experience in deal structuring, business integration and expansion, sales and marketing strategies, financial and process improvement planning, and mergers and acquisitions.

In addition to his role at Hawthorne Capital Partners, Allen is a Partner and Senior Managing Director for Osprey Capital. Osprey Capital is a private and direct commercial real estate lender and Investment group that provides debt financing and preferred equity investments secured by commercial real estate. Osprey’s founder and principals have financed over $10 Billion in commercial real estate transactions.

Prior to joining Osprey, Allen was the Chief Executive Officer of an independently owned textile business that was sold to a private equity group.

Allen began his career as a bank Credit Analyst and Commercial Loan Officer and attended the Florida School of Banking at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.
Allen earned his undergraduate degree in Business and Spanish from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA.

John Kane

John Kane

Operating Partner


John Kane is an Operating Partner for Hawthorne Capital Partners. In this role, John is integrally involved in deal sourcing, review and due diligence, investor recruitment and relations and serves as a member of the operating partner team that supports all firm activities.

John is the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Capstone Event Group (CEG). CEG produces first-class events throughout the country under multiple brands, including: Race 13.1, City of Oaks Marathon, Myrtle Beach Marathon, and Iconic Resort Races.

From 2012 through 2016 Mr. Kane served as the Director of Investor Relations and as an Operating Partner of a North Carolina based private equity investment firm. Prior to that, he was the President & COO of YF Atlantic, the master franchisee of the mid-Atlantic region for one of the world’s largest frozen yogurt franchises.  He co-founded the firm in 2008 and was responsible for the development of 12 locations in some of the most sought after properties in the mid-Atlantic region.

In 2013 Governor Pat McCrory appointed John to serve a 6 year term on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina State Ports Authority.

John earned a Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina State University, where he was a starter and letterman on the football team.   He attended Blair Academy for High School where he was a All-American and starter on two national championship wrestling teams.  John and his wife Katherine are members of Holy Trinity Church in Raleigh NC.
